Written to Clinton, then vice-president of the United States, with an autograph draft of Clinton's reply on the verso. Paine requests the help of Clinton in regaining the right to vote, which he says has been denied to him at New Rochelle when he tried to participate in an election. He refers to the time that he was imprisoned in Paris and the efforts of Gouverneur Morris, Joel Barlow, and other Americans to get him released. Gives plans in detail for bringing the matter to court and indicating parties that he will subpoena. In the draft of his reply Clinton assures Paine that he will write the appropriate letter to the district attorney of New York and do all in his power to assist him.
